ESB has been working with Prison Education in all categories of prisons for many years, building student confidence and employability, and enabling tutors to demonstrate the effectiveness of their teaching. All ESB qualifications offered in prisons are accredited and fundable.

In 2006 a research project carried out on behalf of the Learning and Skills Development Agency (LSDA) showed how ESB courses in oral communication and thinking skills can improve prisoners' quality of life and significantly reduce their likelihood of reoffending: among the ex-prisoners sampled, the reconviction rate among those doing ESB courses was 21%, compared with the national average of all prisoners of 41%. ESB has a range of suitable syllabuses, if you are looking to help your students to:

• Speak confidently at an interview, to gain employment when released
• if ESOL, speak English more effectively

Our assessors are all external, and familiar with assessing in prisons. We are flexible over booking dates and times - discuss your booking or needs with our examinations office.
