Fast, flexible and focused, ESB ESOL for Work is an exciting new qualification from ESB. After half a century of assessing oral English, ESB has added Reading and Writing to its unique style of assessment.
For Learners: ESB ESOL for Work focuses on the English language you need in order to get work, to do your job well and to improve your chances of promotion. You’ll be asked to:
The assessor will encourage you to talk about the things you really know about and you’ll do the assessment in the supportive company of your classmates and your tutor. Feedback within a few days will help you know your strengths and to build that Go For It confidence.
For Tutors: ESB ESOL for Work is matched to the Adult Core Curriculum for ESOL and accredited at Entry 3 (Ref 500/2185/0) and Level 1, (Ref 500/2138/2). Course funding is listed at 150 GLH.Writing tasks are assessed at one level below Speaking, Listening and Reading.Assessment takes place at your choice of venue and time, including evenings or weekends. Experienced, supportive assessors work with groups of up to six candidates together.All parts of the assessment are externally marked.
For Employers: What language do you want your workers to know? Employers can set the context for their workers’ ESB ESOL for Work assessment, and provide any specific vocabulary etc. to be tested.The assessment takes two hours per group of six.

Reading Task Format The Reading Task now comprises three texts, with written questions, set as multiple choice, short answer or matching exercises. There is no oral questioning component. The reading time is 40 minutes. A discussion task will follow the reading task as detailed in the syllabus. Please see the syllabus or contact ESB with queries.
